Sited near the Dorset town of Blandford and next to Blandford Camp home of the famous and soon to be disbanded White Helmets every August the Great Dorset Steam Fair appears on over 600 acres of Farmland. The show is now in it’s 49th Year, was started by Micheal Oliver, who like many friends mourned the loss of the Somerset and Dorset railway line between Poole, Bournemouth, Bristol and Bath in 1966. The Show grew year in, year out, my mother and father took me to my first show in 1978 when I was two and there is still film of me splashing around in the mud, the show traditionally was held later in September, you can see some footage from one of the earlier shows here. and here. The essence of the fair remains same but the size has increased massively. Now known as a national heritage show the event encompasses displaying heritage with modern entertainment. I have been taking pictures at the show for years, I love the beauty of vintage machinery, the site comes alive at night and I have spent hours taking pictures of the famous showman’s engine line up. for information about this years show please head to the shows website
The Great Dorset Steam Fair, the largest event of it's type in Europe.
The Chickerell Steam and Vintage Show is the premier steam and vintage show in South Dorset, the event started as the Portland Steam and Vintage Show having it’s home at the present Ipaca site. I am proud to be associated with the show and provided them with images that have been used in the shows publications and their website. Being involved in the show has expanded my skills set and given me the opportunity to take images of some amazing vehicles including some outstanding Steam Engines, Cars, Motorbikes, tractors, military vehicles and trucks. I have over 3000 images of the show, if you would like to order any images from any of the last 5 years please don’t hesitate to contact me. I will be adding more galleries shortly.
